Routine Fecalysis |
- Place tissue on sloped area above the water level of the toilet bowl.
- Allow the stool to drop on the tissue paper. Be careful not to contaminate stool with urine or water.
- Use applicator stick (or popsicle sticks) and take a small sample (about the size of a 5-centavo coin) including blood and/or mucus if present.
- Secure the lid properly. Wipe clean the specimen cups.

Stool for Occult Blood |
Avoid certain foods and medicine for three (3) days prior to the collection of stool.
- Vitamin C supplements
- Red meat
- Broccoli, turnips, horseradish
- Pain relievers (i.e. Aspirin, Ibuprofen)

Routine Urinalysis |
- For female patients if possible wash the external genital with soap/or water.
- Let the first and last flow of the urine drop to the toilet bowl - catch only middle flow in the sample cup to minimize contamination.
- Fill the specimen cup with urine.
- Secure the lid properly. Wipe clean the specimen cups.

Urine Culture and Sensitivity |
- Wash hands thoroughly.
- Wash penis or vulva using downward strokes. Urethral meatus and perineum must be washed. Each sponge/tissue must be discarded after one use.
- Urinate and take middle portion of urine sample. Screw cap securely on container without touching the inside rim.
